Electronic commerce, commonly known as e-commerce, is a type of industry where buying and selling of product or service is conducted over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks.

The first form of e-commerce started in the 1970 when it was used by business to send commercial documents such as purchase orders or invoices electronically. However it wasn’t until 1990 when the World Wide Web was introduced and online banking took place.

During this time Netscape (a US computer services company, best known for Netscape Navigator, itsweb browser) in 1994 introduced secure encryption of data transferred online which gave birth to Amazon in 1995 and E-bay in 1996 in united states.

However in India, e-commerce did not really pick up stream until much later. In fact in our country online shopping only gained in popularity post the dot com bubble bust in 2000. In the past 12 years, online shopping in India has developed and evolved to a great extent.

As there are various methods formulated for online transactions, however we must know how safe our money is while navigating the network of Electronic commerce.

We must understand the underlying process at work in any digital transaction. One of the most core processes of the entire secure service is encryption. Encryption is the process of transforming the given data sequence which is probably meaningful into something that holds no possible meaning by the use of encoding algorithm. The algorithm ensures the security of data during transaction on network communication from any attack and fraud.

While leveraging online shopping facilities, we may be a victim of hacking, phishing, identity theft and other attacks. A good number of people are targeted every day. They unknowingly disclose bank account and credit card information which is later used to steal money from their accounts. We can enjoy secure shopping and e-commercing by just following certain guidelines and some advice taking into consideration.
